Why is Therapy

Outdoors Different?.

“The quality of our lives is determined by the quality of our relationships”

Watch this video on why “Walk & Talk” therapy is different.

Working outside can be an especially helpful method of working for people who don't have the opportunity to get out into nature very often, and those who feel as if they thrive better when they do.

It's also good for those who may feel a little intimidated or claustrophobic in the environment of a one-on-one session in a room.

Movement…

Movement of the body, and a shift in environment, can help us to think differently about aspects of our lives that have before seemed immovable. Aside from the obvious benefits associated with physical exercise, working therapeutically outdoors can help with feelings of being “stuck”, anxiety, stress or anger; plus the physical space and headspace that being outside provides releases endorphins and is generally mood-enhancing.

Walking…

Walking together side by side also means that the often hugely valuable silences in therapy are much easier to bear for many people, and that the potential intensity of eye contact is removed for those who find it an uncomfortable part of therapeutic work. I am keen to work in a way that suits you best, and everyone has a different balance that works for them - we could mix sessions between outdoors and inside to suit.
