Walking & Talking - How it works

“If you are depressed you are living in the past. If you are living in the future you are anxious. If you are at peace, you are living in the present”

Lao Tzu

We will meet at the same time and place each week, and start and finish our session from the same place.

It's the same as seeing me in the cabin, just "mobile".

There are several routes that I walk regularly, and we can select one of these to suit you; you may prefer to have a slow walk, or you may prefer to walk to a sitting area, maybe in the woods, where you can experience “stillness and peace” while we work together… its totally up to you.

If the cabin feels more suitable for you for whatever reason, and you’d prefer not to work outside, then we will do whatever you feel most comfortable with.

There are a few considerations that I ask you to be aware of.

Weather. An obvious question that I get asked. I'm happy to walk in any weather, but you might prefer not to. I understand if its too hot, or pouring with rain, and walking feels like too much, we can simply switch to the cabin instead.

Confidentiality. To maintain the crucial confidentiality of our session we will agree that, in the unlikely event that we should meet anyone we know, we will indicate it to one another using a code word or phrase, and pause our conversation until we are alone again.

Boundaries. Although the physical boundaries are free, it is important that we remember we are still engaged in a therapeutic relationship, and so our working contract is still present and valid even though we are outside. The professional boundaries are important for the emotional safety and integrity of our work, and something I explain in our first session.

Pace. We'll walk as slowly or as quickly as feels comfortable for you. We might link our work to the pace that we are moving at, as it can sometimes be a good indication of what's going on for you.

In addition…

All of my other working agreements, terms and conditions, ethical undertakings remain in place. I will make these clear in our first session together. I ask that payment is via bank transfer before sessions to make our work together smooth, and without interruption.
